At Apexive, we like to push the boundaries of what's possible in software development. So when our founder, Alexis Yushin, was invited to speak at the WeAreDevelopers World Congress 2024 in Berlin, Team Apexive showed up in full.
This tech conference brought together global decision-makers and some of the brightest minds in development. It was action-packed from the moment we arrived:
- Insightful talks from tech leaders (including CEOs from Stack Overflow, Github, and Atlassian).
- Engaging conversations and cutting-edge demos.
- A live coding competition that had many on the edge of their seats.
Here are our key takeaways from this unforgettable event.
A Buzzing Kick Off
The moment we stepped into the WeAreDevelopers World Congress, we felt excitement in the air. The tech community truly showed up—everyone eager to share ideas and learn from each other.
"The energy was real. We even had personal chats with people from companies we admire, like Huawei. It set the tone for an awesome few days.” – Ivan Zhuikov, Product Manager
Our Founder’s WeAreDevelopers Spotlight Moment
Alexis Yushin, Apexive's Founder and CTO, took Stage 1 with his talk: The Great API Debate: REST, GraphQL, or gRPC.
We expected 50 attendees but got over 300! A remarkable turnout and testament to the topic's relevance.
Alexis’ talk covered a comprehensive analysis of API choices (focusing on REST API, GraphQL, and gRPC), architectural differences, data fetching abilities, and efficiency aspects. He also examined the future impact of API choices on long-term maintainability and scalability of Django applications.
Technical questions from the audience sparked some in-depth conversations. Engaging, insightful, and all-around fun!

Team Apexive Codes by Day and Explores by Night
Beyond the conference, our main goal for this offsite was to strengthen team bonds and build on our company culture. As a remote-first company, face-to-face time is precious. Berlin gave us the perfect backdrop to connect, learn, and grow together.
We had several stand out moments from our time in Berlin. The city's scooters hold a particularly special place in our hearts. On day one, we stumbled upon a bunch of scooters outside our restaurant. We decided to take a 15-minute scooter ride back to the hotel. That short trip turned into a 45-minute adventure through the city.
The team loved it so much, we ended up riding scooters around town at least once a day.
"It's these unplanned moments that bring us together and remind us why we love what we do." – Sofia Khomutova, COO & Co-Founder
